Book a GGT (Gamma Glutamyl Transpeptidase) test for your dog or cat at home in Hyderabad. Key liver enzyme marker for cholestasis, hepatobiliary disease, and liver inflammation.

Description

The Gamma Glutamyl Transpeptidase (GGT) test measures the activity of this membrane-bound enzyme in your pet’s blood. GGT is primarily a marker of hepatobiliary disease in dogs and cats, and is particularly valuable in detecting cholestasis (bile flow obstruction), liver inflammation, and certain hepatic neoplasms.

GGT is associated with hepatocyte cell membranes that form the bile canaliculi. In dogs, GGT has higher specificity (87%) but lower sensitivity (50%) for hepatobiliary disease compared to ALP. In cats, GGT is generally a more sensitive marker for feline hepatobiliary disease than ALP. However, in cats with feline hepatic lipidosis, GGT is only mildly elevated — making interpretation context-dependent.

Elevated GGT in dogs and cats is typically seen with intrahepatic cholestasis (e.g., feline hepatic lipidosis, inflammatory hepatitis), extrahepatic bile duct obstruction, or primary hepatic/pancreatic neoplasia. Sustained increases in GGT and ALP reflect healing and hyperplasia in the biliary tract. Unlike ALP in dogs, GGT is not induced by glucocorticoids in cats, making it more specific for hepatic disease in feline patients.

At Home Petcare offers at-home GGT testing in Hyderabad for dogs and cats. Our veterinary team collects the blood sample at your home for a stress-free experience, with results from a certified diagnostic laboratory.
